Disputing Credit Report – The first step to increase your credit score

You will be surprised and horrified too, to learn that up to 90 percent of credit reports turn out to have erroneous negative entries that decrease your credit score. The first step to resolving the problem is to check your credit report for wrong information and dispute it with the credit bureau immediately. Disputing a credit report needs to be done carefully:
1. Write a letter requesting the removal of the erroneous entry, stating the reasons why this is incorrect
2. Attach with this letter Xerox copies of documentary proof that helps to substantiate your request
3. If you have lots of errors, do NOT dispute them all at once. To do so is likely to result in rejection of your request
4. Closely follow up with the bureau for the action taken on your request
5. Continue to monitor your credit reports for wrongly entered negative accounts. This will help you in disputing credit report entries early, before they damage your credit score.
